BONNIE, Ill. (AP) - A Southern Illinois man has died after being struck by a train while fishing on a railroad bridge with his family.
Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch says Dominique Dontez McCrae was fishing on the Union Pacific Railroad track and bridge over Atchison Creek near Bonnie around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
He says McCrae heard a northbound train approaching and tried to exit the bridge by running southbound. Mulch says the 27-year-old from Mount Vernon was struck by the train around the center of the bridge.
The impact of the collision knocked McCrae over the bridge railing and into Atchison Creek.
His body was recovered from the water and McCrae was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mulch says no foul play is suspected.
