ST. CLAIR, Mo (KSDK) - Two children who went missing Wednesday night were found Thursday morning.
Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said Scotty Warner, 11, was found in the woods near his St. Clair residence at 9:40 a.m. He then guided where he had last seen Erica Linsey, 13. She had left the location, but deputies found her hiding under a porch.
Sheriff Toelke said Warner told them they took off after the girl got into a disagreement with her sister. They had considered being gone for a few days.
Warner told investigators the girl may have followed him when he left the field, but then went and hid under the porch when she saw him talking with law enforcement. Linsey said they had been at the river bank at one point and seen searchers.
The friends were playing outside when the parent of one of the kids left to get ice cream. Around 9:45 p.m. last night, Linsey went into her home and asked a sister whether their mother had returned with the ice cream.
The teenager then returned outside according to police and when the mother did return, both Linsey and Warner were gone.
Investigators say there's evidence the children accessed the internet with a cell phone just before midnight, however that was the only clue they have as the phone has either been turned off, or the battery died.
