ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The homeless camp at 2nd and Plum streets has started to close.
The camp is known as "Camp Plum," and on Wednesday the relocation of the 24 people living there began.
Staff from the Department of Human Services worked with occupants of the area to determine needs and to provide resources.
Maggie Crane, a spokesperson for Mayor Francis Slay, says the former occupants will be offered housing assistance and case management services during the transition.
The relocation is part of Mayor Slay's BEACH Project, which is aimed at ending chronic homelessness. The goal is to re-house and provide services for all chronically homeless people identified in the January 30, 2013 homeless census.
If you would like to make a contribution to assist homeless residents during their transition, checks can be made to the United Way of Greater St. Louis-Encampment Relocation Fund, 910 N. 10th Street, St. Louis, Mo. 63101 or with a phone call to the Department of Human Services at 314-567-1702.
