HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (KATV/CNN) - A t-shirt shop in Arkansas is the center of a heated local debate.

Critics say the messages on the shop's merchandise is lewd and not family friendly. Some called city officials to complain.

Now, the mayor and city attorney are writing a new ordinance to curb the behavior. The store's manager said the she couldn't believe it.

"We're really surprised that so much has been made of a couple of t-shirts. No one has said one thing to us about anything being offensive," said store manager Janet Ford.

Owners of surrounding businesses said they had no problems with the t-shirts.

Still, the store's management decided on their own to put the shirts into a back room, where customers can see them if they're interested.
