Manhunt for driver involved in deadly crash

Villa Ridge, MO (KSDK) -- Police are looking for a driver who escaped police custody after a deadly crash in Franklin County, MO.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highway 100 and Route M in Villa Ridge. Two people were killed.

Joshua McFerrin, 36, was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police say he failed to stop for a traffic signal, then turned into the path of another car.

Mitchell Mantels, 56 and Tarlton Stephens, 46, both of Villa Ridge, were passengers. Both men were prounced dead at the scene.

McFerrin was transported to Mercy hospital in Washington, MO with minor injuries where he escaped custody.

"The subject was taken inside to the emergency room. He might have been there for a few minutes at the most. He bolted from the emergency room," said Sgt. Al Nothum with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

He says McFerrin ran into the nearby woods and troopers conducted a helicopter search but, couldn't find him.
