YARNELL, Ariz. - 19 firefighters battling a blaze in Arizona who were unaccounted for Sunday night have been confirmed dead.
All were members of that city's fire department. Forestry spokesman Art Morrison says the firefighters were caught by the fire Sunday afternoon near the central Arizona town of Yarnell. He says they were forced to deploy their fire shelters.
Eight other firefighters have been taken to the hospital.
Their conditions or the extent of their injuries have not been released.
The crew was fighting the Yarnell Hill fire, which broke out Friday after a lightning strike.
The fire has grown to 2-thousand acres, damaged three homes and forced the evacuations of two communities.
