ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - In a surprise move, the failing Normandy School District selected the Francis Howell School District in St. Charles to receive any students who want to transfer, and Francis Howell officials are ready to accept them. But at this point, the number is still undetermined.
Parents who want to transfer their kids to Francis Howell must provide noticed by August 1.
Normandy will have to cover the cost of busing if parents opt to send their kids to a Francis Howell school.
Normandy is required to pay all tuition costs, no matter which school district students may choose to attend, but it only has to pay transportation to Francis Howell. If parents send their children elsewhere, they will have to pay for busing themselves.
How many students will transfer from Normandy? That's still undetermined.
One thing that Francis Howell officials are concerned about is class size; it's an issue they're looking at this week. Superintendent Pam Sloan said her district has a large capacity, but she won't know about class size totals for a few more weeks.
In the meantime, Dr. Ty McNichols took the reigns as Normandy School Superintendent on Monday, replacing Stanton Lawrence, who resigned.
