Cape Girardeau, MO (KSDK) - One of two St. Louis residents severely injured in a crash along northbound I-55 near Cape Girardeau Monday has died of his injuries.

Missouri Highway Patrol troopers say 87 year old W.C. Sykes was on I-55 north of the Oak Ridge exit in Cape Girardeau County when another northbound car struck Sykes vehicle.

The impact caused Sykes to lose control of the car, sending it off the highway where it collided with an embankment.   Sykes died Tuesday at Barnes Jewish hospital where he was being treated.

A passenger in the victims car, Catherine Anello, 58 of St. Louis was seriously hurt in the crash and taken to St. Francis Medical Center.

The other driver, Melissa Farley, 35 of Kennett, had minor injuries in the crash and was treated by paramedics at the crash scene.
