ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) -  A new twist in the effort to find a missing father and his son near the Meramec River.

Police have called off the search and say they don't believe it was an accidental drowning. The searcg ended after about 6 hours of looking in the Pacific Palisades Conservation area.

Police tell us they also don't suspect any suspicious activity and are simply missing.

The two missing are 36 year old Mike Hill and 16 year old David Hill.

According to Officer Randy Vaughn, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, a woman called police at 12:45 p.m. to say she last saw her husband Mike Hill and her stepson 16-year-old son, David, two hours earlier.

Police say the woman told them the pair went to scope out a fishing spot down a trail in the area.

According to the woman, the two came back and told her to go ahead and head down there with her grandson and they would meet up with them. She and her and grandson headed to the sandbar, but it started to rain so they headed back.

When she and her grandson got back to the car it was locked, her husband, Mike Hill and his son David were gone and so was their fishing gear.

Authorities do not think the pair had any intention of going into the water since they didn't have any waders or a boat with them.

The family was visiting Pacific Palisades and Six Flags St. Louis on a vacation.

Police tell us Mike Hill did have a cell phone on him, but was not answering it.

Search crews scoured the area from land, water and sky for hours and found no evidence of the father son duo.
