St. Louis (KSDK) - Three people were killed in an early morning crash Saturday in St. Louis. The single-car crash happened on Interstate 64 eastbound near the Kingshighway exit.

The driver, 43-year-old Lydell Templeton, and one other person died at the scene. The third, a 40 year old man who has not been identified, was rushed to the hospital and died a short time later.

Police say Templeton was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control. He swerved across all lanes of traffic and then hit the median wall. After he hit the median wall, the car flipped over several times and four out of the five people inside were ejected. The car then caught on fire.

We talked to a man who was passing by and pulled the one person out who had not been ejected.
"A couple of people came down and started helping us try to open the door," says Joe Edwards. "But the door wasn't opening because it was jammed really bad. After that, a guy reached inside and got her arm. We drug her out and made sure she wasn't going to scrape on the glass and got her out. Like 10 or 15 seconds later, the car exploded shooting sparks everywhere."

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.
