UNION, Mo. (KSDK) - A two vehicle collision near Union early Sunday morning left one man dead and five other people injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
According to the MSHP, the accident happened around 1:50 a.m. on Highway 50, just outside of Gerald, Missouri.
Investigators said an eastbound car, driven by 25-year-old Brandon Janssen of Cape Girardeau, crossed the center of the road and struck an oncoming westbound car. Janssen was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. A passenger in his car, 26-year-old Ignacio Serna of Fulton, was seriously hurt and taken to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck, 23-year-old Darren Gamblin of Eldon, suffered numerous fractures and broken bones. He was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis and diagnosed with a concussion.
Gamblin's wife, 23-year-old Casey, also suffered broken bones and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
The couple's daughter was secured in a child seat in the back of the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.
A fourth person in the vehicle, 25-year-old David Schermerhorn of Eldon, was taken to Mercy Hospital Washington to be treated for moderate injuries.
Darren Gamblin was driving back to his home after working in an independent wrestling show in St. Louis Saturday night.
