BALLWIN, Mo. (KSDK) -David Freese and his teammates were honored Monday night at the Ballwin Athletic Association.
Ten years ago a group of mainly junior college players from Meramec, Forest Park, and Jefferson County became the first-ever St. Louis metro team to win the national championship. They went 36 and 5 and shocked a lot of people.
The team was coached by Rick Fiala and Freese, who knows something about winning.
"This was one of the best times of my life. It was a time shortly after I quit baseball and didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. But going to Meramec and being a part of that and playing summer ball with guys that I love, and then ending up just pushing and winning the NABF World Series, it was cool," said Freese.
