EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) - A convicted sexual predator is missing after leaving a halfway house last week, the Illinois Department of Corrections said Tuesday.

Frederick Buettner, 40 years old, went missing July 8 from a halfway house in East St. Louis. He'd been living there since May 24.  Buettner had been wearing an ankle monitoring device.

Buettner was 13 months from finishing a ten year sentence, convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault against a young female relative. That crime happened in Madison County, Ill.

Before that, the Missouri Department of Corrections said Buettner was convicted in June 2004 of two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in Warren County and sentenced to four years.

Now a relative and the sex abuse victim are nervous that he has escaped.

"Not only for our safety, but just the safety of the community, wherever he may be," says Heather Claxton, a relative.

She says the girl was five years old when she finally told her about the abuse from Buettner.

"Details ahve come out that would make your hair stand up,as to what he put her through and she was only three years old when it started," she says. "I have lived through hell for the last 11 years and I can't imagine anyone living through the hell that we have gone through."

Claxton and her relative though are worried for their safety, boarding up windows and sleeping in shifts.

"I haven't seen this man in years, when It went to trial he just pled guilty I haven't seen him at all, so I don't know what he's capable of," she says.

If you have any information on Buettner's whereabouts, call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
