ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - Wednesday night it was their turn. Parents in the unaccredited Normandy school district were able to express their concerns about the plan to transfer students all the way to the Francis Howell district in St. Charles County.

Just last week, Francis Howell parents sounded off about fears of violence and poor academic performance from the kids at Normandy. And after what they saw on the news from the Francis Howell meeting many said they showed up ready to fight back with words of their own in Normandy -- until a few sat down next to parents they did not recognize.

Of the roughly 250 parents attended the meeting in Normandy district, about a half dozen were from Francis Howell and they were there with a message for their fellow parents.

"I'm here to welcome you," said Nikki Lange. She and her husband Chad have four children in the Francis Howell school system. "If there's anything that I can do to better your transition I'm here," said Lange. "These are our children, our future."

"Really made me feel a lot better," said Harriett Gladney, the mother of a second grader in the Normandy district. "I thought Francis Howell was just an evil school district that was ready to throw our kids to the wolves. And, they're not," said Gladney.

Parents have until August 1st to decide where they want their kids to attend school - if they do decide to use the transfer option.
