ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with a fatal hit and run accident near Cahokia last week.
Kevin Powell is charged with reckless homicide, failure to report an accident involving death, obstruction of justice - destruction of evidence, driving without a valid driver's license, two counts of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Powell is accused of hitting 9-year-old Fabian Teson while he was riding his bike on Lorraine Drive last Thursday. Fabian died at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center on Saturday.
On Monday, Powell's vehicle was recovered on Laclede's Landing in downtown St. Louis. Police say early Wednesday morning they located a passenger who had been inside Powell's vehicle at the time of the accident.
Powell was arrested Wednesday at a home in Washington Park.
A funeral was held for Fabian Thursday evening at Braun Colonial Funeral Home.
Bond is set at $100,000.
