ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of shooting another man after a fight at Kiener Plaza.
Police were called to 7th and Chestnut streets around 12 a.m. Thursday for a report of shots fired in the area.
An investigation revealed four men were riding in a vehicle drinking alcohol together when the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Steven Rozier, spilled beer.
An argument erupted, and police say Rozier retrieved a gun and fired several shots, striking 29-year-old Mario Shackelford multiple times in the chest.
Rozier tried to run from the area, but a 27-year-old man chased him. Rozier is accused of shooting several shots at the 27-year-old man, but missed.
As the 27-year-old man tried to detain Rozier, police say the two began fighting. The 27-year-old man was able to get the gun away from Rozier. A witness then took the gun and placed it in the trunk of the vehicle until police arrived.
Shackelford was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rozier was taken to an area hospital for a head injury sustained in the fight. He is listed in critical condition. He is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The 27-year-old man suffered lacerations and was treated at the scene.
