EUREKA, Mo. (KSDK) - It is the coaster capital of Missouri with some of the fastest, tallest, wettest rides this side of the Mississippi, but here's something else that might make your head spin.
Six Flags St. Louis also has its own ice house.
"On a regular day, normal temperatures we'll go through about 25,000 pounds of ice," explained Elizabeth Gotway with Six Flags St. Louis.
As the temperature rises, so does the poundage.
"When the temperatures get up into the high 90s, even 100 like we had last year, we'll go up to almost 40,000 pounds of ice a day," Gotway added.
A day! Because what you probably don't notice as you stand in line is each ride operator has a water cooler. There are more than 20 restaurants and cafés that need ice.
Plus there are countless carts with bottles that need to be iced down.
"So the ice house runs about 16 hours a day on average. They start the deliveries at 7 a.m. finish them right before the park opens each day," Gotway pointed out.
And considering each bag weighs 50 pounds this guy has no need for a gym.
"Not really, it's quite a workout," said the guy doing all the heavy lifting.
It's a workout you probably didn't even know existed.
Next week, you can save 50 percent on your admission at the main gate by bringing in five or more new school supplies. It's part of a back to school supply drive for KidSmart.
