Francis Howell School District

ST. CHARLES (KSDK) - Students in the Francis Howell School District will go back to class on August 8. Right now district leaders are trying to place at least 425 transfer students from the Normandy School District.
NewsChannel 5 has learned middle schools in the district will see the greatest number of transfers. According to the latest information from the district, 6th, 7th and 8th grades will get at least 152 transfer students. At least 45 transfer students will be placed in 6th grade, 55 into 7th grade and 52 into 8th grade.
Comparatively, elementary schools will see at least 145 transfers and high schools will get at least 128 students. District leaders have said their schools will take anyone who wants to transfer, so the numbers could increase.
The district did not make anyone available for comment on Thursday, so the latest numbers still aren't known.
All this raises questions about the impact the transfers will have on class sizes and the education of the students in those classes.
One parent says she thinks it'll all work itself out.
"I think it's going to spread out pretty good," said Melissa Kinion. "I think there are going to be maybe two or three extra (students) in one class. But that's not any different than someone moving in and doing it. So, they're going to watch class sizes. They're not going to let it get too big."
A teacher who asked to remain anonymous said despite the transfer situation, it's pretty much business as usual.
"We welcome the transfer students and with more than 20 buildings in the district we're not too concerned about overcrowding," she said.
The transfer students will be placed throughout the district August 2 through August 5.
Final enrollment figures will be posted here on Tuesday, August 6, by the end of the day.
