(KSDK) - The unaccredited Normandy School District held a back to school rally for families with students returning this fall.
The school district is set to lose 1,500 transfer students.
The transfers will take about one quarter of the district's annual budget.
Administrators with the Normandy School District held the back to school rally to help show its support for those students who decided not to transfer.
The event was met with a huge following; hundreds of students came out.
Honor Roll student Danyel Ross is one student determined to stay within the district. She says she hopes other students will decide to return to Normandy as well.
She told Newschannel 5 Reporter Steve Patterson "You have to stay so you can help us bounce back, get our accreditation back, and so we can graduate from the school we originally came from."
Administrators say they hope to gain new some new ground with parents.
At Saturday's event, they made sure to point out a renewed focus on doing better, with new programs focusing on literacy, attendance and performance.
