CENTER, Mo. (KSDK) - The story about a priest who showed up at a serious accident to pray for a young woman is one of the most popular stories to hit KSDK.com in a long time.
The story started Sunday in Center, Mo., near Hannibal. Katie Lentz, 19, was involved in a car accident when police say a drunk driver crossed the center line and slammed into her car.
After about an hour of unsuccessful rescue efforts, Katie asked crews to pray with her. That's when, out of nowhere, a priest arrived and helped calm rescuers and the victim.
Not long after he showed up new tools arrived and crews were able to free Katie.
"Whether it was a priest as an angel or an actual angel that came in and wearing the priestly attire, he was an angel to all those and to Katie," said family friend Travis Wiseman.
Katie's family wanted to thank the priest, so they contacted all the local churches, but they can't find him.
Crews say he vanished without warning and he wasn't in any of the photos from the scene.
Katie remains hospitalized, but she has been upgraded to serious condition.
