ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - St. Louis County police have identified a 19-year-old killed while attempting to break into a home in the Country Club Hills neighborhood Monday morning.
According to county police, the shooting occurred just after 10:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of Eagle Valley Drive. Police did not indicate if the shooting happened inside or outside the residence.
The homeowner was inside with his fiancée when two teens knocked on the door. The two teens and the homeowner got engaged in a dispute, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.
Police the homeowner shot one of the teens, identified as Akeem Mayes, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other teen remains at large and should be considered armed.
Meanwhile, county investigators are trying to determine if the Castle Doctrine applies to the homeowner.
