ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A 25-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after police say he broke a window and entered an apartment near the Edward Jones Dome late Wednesday night, killing one man and leaving another seriously injured, while his three young children were inside the home.
Police say Rico Combs is armed and dangerous. The Circuit Attorney's Office has issued at-large warrants for first degree murder, assault, domestic assault, burglary and other charges in connection with the incident.
Authorities got a call concerning a shooting from the Housing Authority at the Cambridge-Cochran Complex in the 1300 block of North Seventh Street at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses say Combs made his way into the home and shot 27-year-old John Gorman and another man in front of his three children, who were also inside the home with their mother. Gorman died from his gunshot wounds, and the second man is currently hospitalized in critical and unstable condition.
The children are 3, 5 and 7 years old.
Combs was not living with the mother and the children at the time, and did not have permission to be in the home, documents from the Circuit Attorney's Office say.
Police say Combs pressed a pistol to the mother's forehead as she clung to her children, leaving her with a circular injury and other cuts and lacerations. The two men Combs shot were the mother's childhood friends, according to police.
Combs' past convictions include resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer in the third degree, felony stealing, property damage and tampering.
Anyone with information about Combs' whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS. Anyone who sees him should consider him armed and dangerous and should call 911 immediately.
