St. Louis (KSDK) -- The Better Business Bureau says an 83 year old woman in St. Charles fell victim to a prank phone call.
The BBB calls it a sophisticated "grandparent scam" case. The man on the phone knew the name of her grandson and other specific family information. He called last week to say he was being held in a Mexican prison until he could raise enough money to get out. He also gave specific instructions on how to wire money from her checking account to an account in Mexico. She sent $13,800. Her family notified the BBB.
