ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Hundreds gathered in Forest Park Sunday for Peace Fest 2013.
They were joined by police officers from both St. Louis city and county and a father made famous by tragedy.
Tracey Martin is the father of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen shot and killed last year in an altercation with neighborhood watchman George Zimmermann.
Peace Fest is organized by the nonprofit Better Family Life with the goal of reducing violence by changing the lives of individuals.
Tracey Martin did talk about his son's case and what he sees at the injustices of the case. But he also told the crowd strong families make stronger communities.
"The men of the community need to take back the community and start raising our kids how we're supposed to raise them," Martin said from the stage.
Saturday, Martin was on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial commemorating the March on Washington, D.C.
But said he left early to be at Sunday's event in Forest Park. Martin has roots in the Metro East.
