St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Two people are in custody, including one who was injured in a crash in north St. Louis while fleeing police who were investigating an earlier shooting.
Investigators say just after 10:45 p.m. Monday a man was shot multiple times at the intersection of Lillian and Beacon in the Walnut Park neighborhood. The 37 year old victim is now in stable condition at a hospital.
The victim was able to escape to the 4900 block of Davison where police were called. Witnesses say a silver Chevrolet HHR was seen speeding away from the shooting scene.
Moments later police caught up to the fleeing car and pursued the vehicle into the Baden neighborhood where the driver of the speeding vehicle slammed into a light pole, a mail box, and a fire hydrant on Halls Ferry at Veronica.
Police took one man to jail, another to the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash. A third man in the car fled the scene by running.
Authorities say they confiscated an assault rifle from the wrecked car and were searching for a handgun which police say was the weapon used to shoot the victim.
