Michael Collins charged for murder in Hazelwood woman's death
HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney charged a Hazelwood man with murder for a woman found dead in her Knollwood Apartment home Monday.
Michael Collins, 26, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.
Hazelwood police found Denitra Jones, 27, dead in her home in the 5400 block of Forest Creek Monday morning. The St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled her death a homicide.
Collins is being held at the St. Louis County Detention facility under a $500,000 cash-only bond.
On Wednesday morning, Jones' mother, Edna Dunn, released the following statement:
"My daughter was a bright, beautiful, caring young woman who was "literally" loved by everyone who took the time to get to know her. She graduated from Riverview Gardens High School and received her B.A from Fontbonne University in 2010. She died for no reason. We are overwhelmed by both grief, for our loss, and gratitude, for the outpouring of support that we have received from friends and family."
