EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - The Madison County State's Attorney's Office charged a 59-year-old Glen Carbon man with renting an uninhabitable home to a family after being told the property was deemed unfit for occupancy.
According to Edwardsville Police Chief Jay Keeven, the city's public works department notified police on August 22 about a single-family residence in the 600 block of Hill Lane being a danger due to violations of the International Property Code.
Those code violations included: improper venting of a gas water heater, improper electrical wiring, non-functioning or missing smoke alarms, collapsed bathroom flooring, exposed ceiling insulation, and other violations.
On Tuesday, August 27, police obtained a warrant from the state's attorney's office charging Steven Veith with criminal housing management.
If convicted, Veith faces up to three years prison.
