KSDK - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Friday that sections of Interstate-64 will be closed for approximately nine days starting on Sept. 13 from the I-55/70/64 split to 18th Street in East St. Louis to reconstruct exit ramps and resurface existing lanes.
In addition, westbound I-55/70 will be closed for approximately two and a half days beginning on Sept. 20 from Ill. 203 to the I-55/70/64 interchange in East St. Louis. This closure will also serve to allow crews to reconstruct exit ramps and resurface existing lanes.
Traffic during the I-64 closure will follow a marked detour from eastbound I-55/70 to southbound I-255. IDOT said drivers should "prepare for major impacts to traffic, especially during evening rush hour traffic," in a news release, and encourages drivers to consider alternate routes, modified work schedules or other modes of transportation.
During the I-55 closure, traffic take a detour via southbound I-255 to westbound I-64.
The I-64 closure begins at 9 p.m. Sept. 13 and is expect to end at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23. The I-55/70 closure is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Sept. 20 and end at 5 a.m. Sept. 23.
