Sunday Update: The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Michael Evans from the 600 block of Webster.

St. Louis, MO (KSDK)- A motorcyclist is dead after crashing into a police vehicle in South St. Louis.

Police say the victim was one of thousands of motorcyclists in town for Sunday's "Ride of the Century."

The deadly crash happened at the intersection of Elizabeth and January.

Police say around 6:00 p.m. Saturday a motorcyclist died after clipping an unmarked police car.

They say four motorcyclists, who are staying at a nearby hotel, were riding on January Avenue.

Witnesses told police they were speeding and doing stunts. An accident reconstruction team is investigating.

Police say three riders passed an unmarked police car on the right, a fourth motorcyclist passed the officer on the left, knocked off the rear view mirror, lost control of his bike, slammed into a light pole, and landed in the grass.

Police say he was pronounced dead on scene.

They say the other three left the scene.

"The Highway Patrol, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County all got together on Wednesday and said come to St. Louis but ride responsibly. So far the first night over 20 arrests, the second night nine arrests, video of individuals doing stunts, and so it comes to personal responsibility. Come to St. Louis, enjoy the sites, enjoy the city, but be responsible and what we saw tonight is what happens when people act irresponsibly. They put this community at risk, they put police officers at risk, and a cyclist lost his life tonight," said Chief Sam Dotson, with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police say the victim is in his early 30's.

The victim's friends say he was in town from Harrisburg, Illinois. He is an avid and experienced motorcyclist and has been coming to St. Louis for the "Ride of the Century" for at least the past three years.

Police are not releasing his name until his family members are notified.
