BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO/CNN) - An elementary school principal is accused of shooting and killing her husband. Lesley Jenae Chance, principal of Fairview Elementary School, is expected to be in court on Tuesday.
A field worker found Todd Chance's body Sunday morning on a dirt road near Noriega, just east of Enos Lane. Detectives with the Kern County Sheriff's Office say he had been shot multiple times. His car was later found 20 miles away near the intersection of Tigerflower Drive and Wheatland Avenue.
Ray Pruitt, spokesperson for the Kern County Sheriff's Office says evidence shows Lesley Chance abandoned the car.
"We do believe she's the person who drove his vehicle into the neighborhood and left it there," said Pruitt.
That's just some of the evidence that led to the arrest of Lesley chance. She was taken into custody Sunday night and was booked into the Kern County Jail early Monday morning. Pruitt says they are certain she's the suspect.
"As far as the motive, w really don't know that at this point. Hopefully we'll be able to determine what the motivation was behind the killing but we are certain that Lesley Chance is behind the shooting death," said Pruitt.
Lesley Chance is expected to be in court on Tuesday. That's the same day her husband is scheduled to be buried.
A school district spokesperson said teachers and staff at the school are still in shock.
