ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KSDK) - A car accident on southbound Route 94 left a pedestrian dead at the scene early Thursday morning.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper L.B. Larimore, the driver of a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer lost control of the car after driving along a wet curved part of the road. The Highway Patrol said either a light rain or heavy dew caused for the road's wetness.
The car veered off the road and flipped over and struck 59-year-old Valente Zapata, an employee of T.J.'s Landscaping who was doing yardwork at a church near the road.
Zapata had worked for the company on a seasonal visa since 2008 and was the main provider for the family, according to a company spokesman.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital, according to the trooper.
The Missouri Highway Patrol continues to investigate for a cause of the accident.
T.J.'s Landscaping plans to set up a fund for the Zapata family at First State Bank in St. Charles in his name.
