BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - An armed suspect fought with police over the weekend in unincorporated Belleville.
Deputies were called to the 1100 block of Five Forks Road Sunday after a caller reported four men were in front of the home and fired several shots.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old David E. Fields, is known to police. The deputy saw Fields standing inside an open garage. Fields started to walk toward an interior door when the deputy ordered him to stop.
Fields closed the garage door and went inside the home.
A second deputy arrived on the scene. When the pair knocked on the front door, Fields responded, hiding his left side. Police say he would not respond to verbal commands.
One deputy pulled Fields from the doorway and handed him to the other. A struggle ensued, and a gun was spotted on Fields.
Deputies pushed Fields to the ground, and a loaded pistol magazine fell onto the porch.
Fields is accused of kicking both deputies in the legs while he was handcuffed.
A search warrant was executed on the home, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene was called to process the scene. Lab results are pending.
Fields is charged with two counts of aggravated battery. He is held at the St. Clair County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
