ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Events like the Gateway Classic, St. Louis Cardinals-Chicago Cub series, the St. Louis Blues returning to the ice and Taste of St. Louis are invading the downtown area this weekend. The increased traffic, plus mandatory street closures, will provide headaches for unprepared commuters.
According to Streets Department Director Tom Waelterman, there will be closures for most events happening this weekend.
The Gateway Classic parade, which starts assembling at 8 a.m., will have a route of 14th and Martin Luther King Drive to south to Washington to east to Broadway, north to Cole and west to 7th Street blocked until approximately 11 a.m.
The Taste of St. Louis will shut down Market and Chestnut from Tucker to 15th, Pine from Tucker to 14th Street, 13th from Market to Olive and 14th from Clark to Pine until Sunday at midnight.
Also, one block of Clark between 4th Street and Broadway will be closed during games only for bus parking.
All the closures could make street parking difficult, but Metro Transit has a number of ways to get around town, including buses and nearby Metrolink stops. Metro also has a trip planner to help schedule your travel time.
If you're still planning to drive downtown, the Taste of St. Louis has a map of area garages close to it.
