ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The Humane Society of Missouri says an arrest has been made in the case of Zeus, a severely burned pit bull who had to be put down due to his severe injuries.

On Tuesday, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office issued an at-large warrant for felony animal abuse against 22-year-old Wesley Reid. He was taken into custody Wednesday without incident.

Zeus was found near the intersection of Amelia and Bircher in north St. Louis in late August. His owner was very distraught and said his dog had gone missing, and a neighbor called to say Zeus had been found severely burned in the backyard.

The owner surrendered Zeus to the Human society. He had third-degree burns on 75 percent of his head, and 30 percent of his body had third-degree burns. His left front paw did not have any pads left. He was euthanized a short time later.

A veterinarian said before the incident, Zeus had been in excellent health with good dental and body condition.
