ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louis has Cardinals fever as we all prepare for Thurday's playoff game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Red Birds will have a good luck charm on the field before the game - the Budweiser Clydesdales!

Who doesn't love the Clydesdales? NewsChannel 5's Grant Bissell actually spent some time with the director of Clydesdale operations, who says the players actually requested the horses make a lap around the bases Thursday.

But, as beautiful as the animals are, they still need a little help getting ready for the big day. Handlers spend a lot of times washing the horses' white legs before the Clydesdales go out on a trip. It's all part of their grooming routine.

After that, the horses are brushed, and their manes are braided by hand with white and red ribbons. They even braid the horses' tails to keep them out of the eyes of the other horses.

The Clydesdales will be out on Clark Street, posing for pictures, before they go in for their lap around the stadium.
