St. Louis (KSDK) - While the Cardinals were going up against the Dodgers at Busch Stadium Saturday afternoon, two of their biggest fans were standing at the alter.
D.J. and Erin Cummins decided to use rally towels instead of rice for their send-off after their wedding. And along with wedding white during their ceremony, they sported Cardinals red. The two met in October of 2011. And they fell in love over a mutual love for the Cardinals.
Erin's aunt is good friends with D.J.'s aunt. And despite their initial hesitation they eventually agreed to be set up. Right away, they knew they had something special.
"I think he just thought it was cool to find a girl who had a Cardinals tattoo and could drink a few Budweisers," said Erin.
In fact, D.J. knew she was the one after just three dates. So when the time was right, he bought a ring, and one morning, had flowers delivered. Then, he got down on one knee.
"I proposed right there in the doorway where the flowers came in," said D.J.
When Erin started planning, she knew the Cardinals would be a key part of their big day.
"It just felt right," said Erin.
And quite appropriately, as the Cummins were saying their vows, the Cardinals were winning game two of the NLCS.
"My cousin had an earbud during the wedding so I could kind of hear it," said D.J.
Now the newlyweds say they're excited to see what married life will bring. And kicking it off with a win from their Cardinals was a pretty good start.
"We're just gonna see where the road takes us," said Erin.
