FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KSDK) - Police have apprehended three teenagers for allegedly stealing a 15-year-old's cell phone during a fight.
Police initially received a call Friday from an anonymous person who said there was a fight occurring at Moody Park. When an officer arrived at the scene, he was flagged down by a 15-year-old, who said he was the victim of a robbery.
The teenager said that three individuals came up to him in the park and hit and kicked him. They then demanded his cell phone, and ran away from the scene. The victim said he knew the suspects, and gave officers their descriptions and nicknames.
Several hours later, police found the two of the three when they pulled a vehicle over for a minor traffic violation at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Highway 157. They were taken into custody and taken to the Fairview Heights Police Department. The suspect suspected was arrested at his residence near Moody Park.
Two of three the suspects are being detained at the Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing. Due to their ages, their names were not released.
The third was identified as 17-year-old Darrell Gilkey of Belleville. He has been charged with one count of robbery, and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
There is no word yet on the motivation for the robbery.
