Baby found alive in trash can in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A baby, possibly a newborn, was found alive in a trash can Friday night in Indianapolis.

As the infant was being transported by a Wayne Township Fire Department ambulance at 8:20 p.m., medics speaking by radio to staff at a hospital described the baby as newborn and said they were trying to warm it up and that the baby was "pink."

Officer Rafael Diaz, spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, said the infant was found in a trash can in a bathroom in a warehouse on the city's Westside.

That area is largely industrial and commercial.

No further information was immediately available.
