Bear killed in Maries County

MARIES COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) – The Maries County Sheriff's Department confirms that a bear was struck and killed by a motor vehicle near Meta Monday morning.

The sheriff's department says Jeremy Deardeuff hit the bear. He was not injured.

No additional information was immediately available about the incident.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, there are at least 275 black bears in Missouri, and the population is making a comeback after a nearly century-long decline.
