Belleville man charged with felony home repair fraud

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A Belleville home repairman is on the run, accused of scamming at least seven homeowners out of thousands of dollars. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department wants to arrest 62-year-old Arnold Walters, who lives in the 200 block of Oliver Lee Drive in Belleville. Authorities charged Walters with felony home repair fraud on $100,000 bond.

St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson said Walters bid on home repairs, then asked the homeowners for most of the money up front before failing to show up to perform the work. One homeowner was ripped off for $7,000.

"There's $9,825 worth of hail damage on this home. He takes $7,000 as a down payment and never comes back," Watson said. "He steals this man's money and never does the work."

Sheriff Watson says Walters has scammed $18,000 from seven people -- and there may be more victims. If you think you've been scammed by Arnold Walters, contact the St. Clair County Sheriff's department or your local police.
