Clinton thanks Oman for help on hikers' release

MUSCAT, Oman (AP) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has traveled to Oman to personally thank the Persian Gulf nation's leader for his help in securing the release of three American hikers detained in Iran.

U.S. officials with Clinton say she will also raise Iran's poor behavior with Oman's sultan, including an alleged Iranian plot to kill the Saudi ambassador.

The sultan has decent ties with Iran and played a key role in arranging the release of Sarah Shourd, Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer. Iran released Shourd last year, and Bauer and Fatttal were set free last month.

Clinton arrived in Muscat on Wednesday after visiting Libya, where she pledged continuing support for the nation's new leaders.
