10-year-old shot in north county

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - A 10-year-old boy was shot taking out the trash in north St. Louis County. It happened around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 9500 block of Jannette, just off of Halls Ferry near Lucas and Hunt.

Ahmad Walker was taking a bag to the trashcan with his father when gun fire erupted about a half a block away. In a flash, his young life changed forever.

"We were taking out the trash and we saw three young guys run by," said Ahmad's father, Orseno Walker. "And then they came back, ran by us a second time and when they got to the stop sign, multiple shots were fired."

Orseno says he thought the sound was firecrackers going off until he heard his son scream, and watched him fall to the ground.

"He was a couple of feet in front of me. So when I walked down and realized all the blood was in the driveway, that's when I realized he had actually been shot," he said.

Orseno carried Ahmad into the house and called 911. He showed us his blood-soaked clothes and the bullet hole in the trash can. Ahmad was shot in the hip. The bullet went through his stomach and did major internal damage.

"He's stable at this point, but there are still a couple of surgeries he has to make it through. So he's not out of the woods yet," said Orseno.

A 67-year-old woman was caught in the middle of that gunfire while she was driving home from bible study. She drove right into the gunfire when she turned onto Jannette. He says it's a miracle that she made it through because bullets went through every part of the car except the driver's seat.

Police say a 22-year-old man was also shot in this area at the same time. They believe they are connected.

No arrests have been made at this time.
