13-year-old shooting suspect turns self in

Police said there were other kids with the boy at the time of the shooting.

ST. LOUIS - A 13-year-old boy was shot in St. Louis Wednesday afternoon in the Walnut Park West neighborhood, according to police.

Officers say the child was shot in the stomach by another 13-year-old boy. When he was taken to the hospital, he was conscious and breathing.

It happened in the 5900 block of Lalite Avenue just before 5 p.m., which is near Northwest Academy of Law High School.

Better Family Life was throwing an anti-violence rally at that high school on Wednesday. The organization was working to prevent violence in the community by encouraging anyone who knows of a conflict to visit one of its de-escalation centers. That event wrapped up just a couple hours before the shooting.

Police said there was a group of young men in the home when the gun was fired. One of the people in the home had the gun that fired the shot. The 13-year-old suspect, who is known to the victim fled the from the home. There were no parents in the home at the time of the shooting.

Thursday morning, the 13-year-old suspect turned himself in to police at the North Patrol Division. He remains in custody of juvenile authorities while the investigation is ongoing.
