Green Mount Road bike trail

Belleville, IL (KSDK) - A jogger fought, screamed and got away, but so did the man accused of trying to sexually attack her.
It happened Sunday around 5:45 p.m. on a busy bike trail on Green Mount Road in Belleville. Police said the unknown man came up behind the jogger, pulled her pants down and got on top of her.
This happened on a pretty busy bike and running trail next to the MetroLink - and it was still daylight. The man planned to sexually attack the woman in her 20s, but because of her actions, that's not the way things turned out.
"Fortunately, she was able to fight him off enough, get up, get her wits together and took off running," said Captain Don Sax with the Belleville Police Department said. "She began screaming as she was leaving and fortunately there was some other people on the trail that were on bicycles that were coming towards her so she ran towards them, they came towards her."
Police don't have a good description on the suspect. They're asking anyone who may know something to call them.
Sax says although there was a sexual type attack on the same trail in a different location many years ago, this type of thing is rare. He warns people to be aware of their surroundings and to exercise in groups.
