East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - Steven Patrick McClure pleaded guilty Wednesday for failure to register as a sex offender.

McClure, 41, faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and five years of supervised release.

Court documents say the violation occurred between March 24, 2008 and May 9, 2010. McClure had been last seen in Madison County, Illinois until he was taken into custody in Decatur County, Georgia.

He had been required to register as a sex offender under Illinois law and the Sex offender Registration and Notification Act because of an aggravated criminal sexual abuse conviction on March 14, 2008 in Madison County, IL.

McClure had acknowledged he understood the registration requirements by signing an Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act Notification Form on March 14, 2008.

When McClure was detained in Georgia, he had not registered as a sex offender in that state, nor had he updated his registration form in Illinois.

McClure is scheduled to be sentenced December 16, 2011.
