Rolla, MO (KSDK) - A 24-year-old Rolla man surrendered to authorities Sunday morning following a near four-hour standoff.
According to Rolla Chief of Police Mark Kearse, officers responded to the 300 block of N. Cedar after receiving calls about shots being fired near 3rd and Olive Street.
Police said a man, identified as Gilberto Garcia, came out of a residence armed with a rifle, Kearse said. Officers ordered the man to put down his weapon, but he ignored their commands and went back inside the home.
Officers established a perimeter around the home and the surrounding residences were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The Rolla Police Department's SWAT Team, as well as several other local law enforcement agencies, came to the scene.
At around 6:15 a.m., Garcia exited the residence and surrendered to authorities without further incident. No injuries were sustained.
Garcia was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Phelps County Jail.
