Tulsa, OK (KTUL/CNN) - The suspects in the shootings of five African-Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma, confessed shortly after their arrest, according to police documents.
Family members of accused gunman Alvin Watts are shocked and saddened by the news.
"In our hearts in our minds there's one race and that's the human race. To judge somebody by the color of their skin, is very shallow," said Michael Watts, brother of suspect Alvin Watts.
The Watts family is a racial mix, comprised of white, Native American, and African-American, so to learn the victims in Friday's shooting were all black is gut-wrenching to a family that is bi-racial.
"My brother don't look up to him. He did all his life till now. He's broke our heart," said Michael.
That brother is Justin Hughes. He and Michael are half brothers. While Justin and Alvin aren't blood related, they were raised like brothers.
"I love him with all my heart, that's my brother," said Justin.
Justin and Alvin also shared a common interest in football. Now those talks are on hold.
"I said I didn't think it would happen in my family. I didn't think nothing like that would happen, I didn't think people would think like that in my family. It never happened before," said Justin.
Justin has mixed emotions about talking to his brother, but says he plans to make contact.
"Just let 'em know how I feel about the whole situation. I want him to get right, tell the people that he's sorry. I'm sorry that it happened, I really am," said Justin.
