Port Orange, FL (WESH/CNN) - Police in Florida discovered human remains in a rape suspect's backyard.

You can see a pair of blue tarps covering the dig site in the back of James Maxwell's home in Port Orange.

Last week, police received a tip suggesting Maxwell may be behind several crimes.

The 43-year-old has been in jail since December, accused of kidnapping and raping a 9-year-old girl.

Investigators say the remains found this afternoon belong to an adult and may have been buried for a while.

According to police, Maxwell is considered the prime suspect in the homicide investigation.
