Dayton, OH (WHIO/CNN) - A 70-year-old Ohio man confined to a wheelchair was robbed of all of his money.

"I'm sick. God, I'm sick. I got to take care my dogs," said John Thacker.

Mutlee and Lucky are Thacker's family.

"Now me and my dogs are going to starve the rest of the month. It is to me. I get a thousand dollars a month social security and that's it. That's all I get. Now I'm in trouble. Big, big trouble," he said.

Thacker says a man came into his home demanding money.

"And he said, 'Give it up.' I had $850 in my pocket and he ripped my shirt up and ripped it off and took off," said Thacker.

Police believe the robbery actually began at the Food For Less store three blocks from Thacker's home.

"Its apparent now that there was a suspect stalking him when he was in the store, knew that he had cashed a check and we've learned that that person followed him home," said Sgt. Moses Perez with the Dayton Police Department.

Perez says people need to be careful of their surroundings, but it was more difficult in this case.

"You have to be aware but in this case, the gentleman was in a wheelchair and he's carrying his groceries on his lap, so he is probably concentrating on keeping them on his lap and not dropping his groceries and the other guy is pushing him. So it was unexpected. They were blindsided basically," said Perez.

Thacker did try to protect himself with a three foot wooden stick he uses as a cane.

"It didn't do no good and you see my shirt tore up," he said.

So far, no arrests have been made.
