New Brunswick, NJ (NEWS 12/CNN) - A New Jersey jury found a father guilty of murder Friday afternoon for throwing his baby off a bridge.
In a statement, the prosecution said no verdict could bring Zara back or give the family closure, but maybe this would provide them peace.
Baby Zara's mother testified that Shamsidden Abdur-Raheem kidnapped their three-month old from the baby's grandmother and threw her into an icy river.
Two weeks before the baby's death, she says she had broken up with Abdur-Raheem and moved out.
Zara was thrown from the bridge February 16th, 2010, but it was two months before her body was recovered.
In court, Abdur-Raheem admitted to throwing the baby into the river but said he believed she was already dead.
